We worked with Excel again today. However, this time we were taught differnt funtions that can be performed while using it. One thing we learned was how to use the minimum and maximum funtion which can come in handy when doing grades, which is what we were simulating. We also composed our own formula to average the score with weight on specific things. The grades and project were 25% and the test was 50%, by using the formula we came up with it was easier to calculate it. We also learned about the IF function today. We used this to convert the number grade to a letter grade. It can be found in the help menu of excel, this is a great feature. We were also taught about the handle tool. This is a great function that allows you not to have to type the equation multiple times, you just grab the handle and drag. This then puts the same equation in all the boxes highlighted. I then formated the sheet by adding color and a border to the table. This is my finished spreadsheet.
The NETS that go along with this project are:
1b: engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources.
I chose this standard because when I become a teacher and I'm working in the real world, I will be using these digital tools in my classroom.
1c: promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes.
I also chose this standard because after completing the project we blogged about it. This promoted reflecxtion of what we completed.
3d: model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning.
I chose this one because the digital tool we used helped us analyze and evaluate research.
